What to expect at your initial appointment?

At your initial consultation with Dr. Farag, he will take the time to understand your general health and discuss the reason for your referral in detail. This will include asking specific questions about your symptoms and medical history. A physical examination is often required as part of the assessment.

If needed, Dr. Farag will arrange appropriate investigations, which may include blood tests, urine tests, or imaging studies. Based on the findings, he will explain the diagnosis and discuss the available management and treatment options with you.

You are very welcome to bring a support person to your appointment. Dr. Farag encourages patients to ask questions and will ensure you have a clear understanding of your condition and the next steps in your care.

  • Telehealth appointments may be offered where clinically appropriate. While some appointments can be safely and effectively conducted via Telehealth, an in-person visit is sometimes recommended so Dr. Farag can carry out a thorough assessment and ensure you receive the most appropriate care. Your initial consultation may therefore be scheduled in person.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss whether Telehealth might be suitable for you, our friendly team is always happy to help.

  • If you are unable to attend your appointment, we kindly ask that you contact us as soon as possible to let us know. This helps our practice run smoothly and allows us to offer appointments to other patients. We will be happy to assist in rescheduling your appointment with minimal impact on your ongoing care.

  • Our team will clearly explain all costs associated with any surgery or procedure as part of our informed financial consent process. We encourage all patients to contact their insurance company to confirm their level of cover as insurance coverage can vary between providers and procedures. Our team is also happy to assist with any questions you may have.

  • Yes, Dr. Farag will gladly see all patients, including those without private health cover.

However, if a procedure is required this may be very costly in a private hospital.

Should this be the case Dr. Farag may refer you to St Vincent’s Hospital or Western Health for your operation, as he has public appointments at these centres.

  • A referral is not strictly required to attend an appointment; however, a valid referral from your GP or another specialist is required to receive a Medicare rebate. A referral also helps by providing important information about your medical history, allowing Dr. Farag to better understand your concerns and plan your care more effectively.

For this reason, we recommend that patients have an up-to-date referral before their appointment with Dr. Farag. This can help reduce out-of-pocket costs and supports a more streamlined and personalised approach to your care.
